AN OUTING YOU WOULD ENJOY! Visit the Walt Whitman Birthplace!
Drive up nearbyJaynes Hill to stand at the highest point on Long Island!
There, you will find a place to sit by a large boulder that bears a plaque with a Walt Whitman poem.
If Jaynes Hill is 401 feet high, and the rock is 5 feet high, and I, sitting on the stone, add another few feet, then it is likely, at the moment of this picture, the top of my head was the highest human point on Long Island. Aha! At last I have a claim to fame!
