MEMOIR WRITING Just tell me a good story--a true story about something that happened to you. As this is an essay class, your story should be true. As this is a "memoir," it should be about you! Tell me where you were when... Tell me how you felt when... Do that clearly, grammatically, factually, descriptively, so that when I'm done I say to myself, "that was a good story. I'm glad I read that." As this is a story about you, the familiar rule applies--as has been true for much of the course: NO OUTSIDE SOURCES should be used to write your story! You are your own source of information. The way you write this essay will be much like the creation of a Turning-Point essay. Fill your memory with details and then select from them to write your piece. As with your dominant impression writing, you will want to create a unified tone or feel in the piece. If you Google memoir writing, there are many good how-to links. Here are two: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5340618 and a link to other links! |
